Problems opening WXP-VM (formerly produced/used with VMware Workstation)

Post by Joe890 »

Hello Forum

I heard that using VMDK as file-format makes a VM portable and platform independent (but now I remember, that long time
ago under VMware this was only possible with the help of VMware ACE ...)

Question:
However, what could be the problem, that VBox 5.2 cannot open a Windows XP VM (VMDK) produced long time ago with VMware Workstation 7.1 ?

Thank's a lot!
Joe

-> use existing disk
-> WXP.vmdk

E:\VMs-test\Windows XP Professional\Windows XP Professional.vmdk could not be opened.

Could not get the storage format of the medium 'E:\VMs-test\Windows XP Professional\Windows XP Professional.vmdk' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).

Lots of things could be wrong. Given the "OBJECT_NOT_FOUND" error I'm going to guess that the VMDK is incomplete is some way.
