Hello,
Configuration
Host: Linux Mint 19 with VirtualBox 6.0.14 + matching 6.0.14 Extension Pack
Guest: Windows 7 with matching 6.0.14 Guest Additions
Guest: 2 X 32GB Dynamic vdi's (for C:\ & D:\ in the Guest)
I installed, configured and updated over a number of days,
I would normally have "backed-up" the Win7 VMS folder at each of my steps,
Instead I created a series of snapshots, "3"
The VM seems fine and I would like to remove the snapshots and get to just "Current State"
(( I will then just back-up, as and when required. ))
But I'm not sure if I delete backwards form "Current State(Changed)",
or
from the bottom up towards "Current State(Changed)"
(( I "have" read and "noted"about the snapshots... That they are not a substitute for back-up. ))
Many Thanks...

Re: Correctly Removing Snapshots
In a recent post by Socratis, he expressed that it does not matter what order the snapshots are deleted in.
If this guest is important, copy any important data out of the guest first. Also take an offline backup, with the guest shut down, not save-stated. Copy the guest folder and everything therein to other media. If the guest disk file is not in the guest folder, copy that too.
Once the copies are made and 'FC'-confirmed, delete snapshots. If anything goes wrong, overwrite the original with the copy. the copy

Re: Correctly Removing Snapshots
Umm... I think I didn't say that. I think I said that someone should start from the bottom of the list, the newest snapshot, and work your way to the top of the list, the oldest snapshot.scottgus1 wrote:In a recent post by Socratis, he expressed that it does not matter what order the snapshots are deleted in.
Reason is quite simple. Since they're a stack of cards, if you start from the oldest and something goes wrong, you're going to lose everything. But if you start from the newest snapshot, and something goes wrong, you can still recover something.
Of course a backup is a must in any scenario.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Re: Correctly Removing Snapshots
Well, I did say that. Personally, I prefer deleting the oldest snapshot first, because I think it is a little bit faster in my use cases.

Done... Only just seen the latter posts...
I started with oldest(biggest.?) it did give the impression of hanging...
But
Showed disk activity vbox services
Re-booted... 1st boot took about 18secs to desktop, subsequent back to @ 8sces
Many Thanks...
