How to you link VM's together?

So i Just rechecked over the assessment plus a few emails that I got from the trainers. Didn't get much from the emails but the assessment paper wants Remote access set up. I could be wrong here but isn't remote access only used for communication between the host server and the work stations? If that's correct I dont know why they don't want this to be done as 4 work stations and one server
