I have installed VirtualBox on Windows 10, and want to dual boot Ubuntu 19.4. Do I have to reinstall Ubuntu each time I use it? Thank you!

If I recall correctly, Linux live CDs always try to install when booting from the live CD. Remove the live CD from the guest's virtual CD drive and the installed OS will boot instead.

Are you sure you want to "dual-boot", and not simply install Ubuntu 19.04 in a Virtual Machine?

Please be careful with the terminology and the details, it can mean the difference between night and day... ;)

Is it possible to run Ubuntu when I want and Windows 10 when I need? Thank you for following up, I think you understand what I am trying to do better than I wrote.

While dual-booting is possible, it isn't usual, because one can just make another guest. If you have a sufficiently powerful host you can have two virtual machines, one with Windows and one with Ubuntu, and run them side-by-side at the same time.

I just bought a newer laptop that is much newer than my old laptop from ten years ago. I will look at options to do just that. I would like to only run Ubuntu, but I want to stay up with Windows 10 as we run it at work. Any suggestions? Is VirtualBox the right product to do that? Thank you again! Tom
