This is for discussing general topics about how to use VirtualBox.

When cloning a VirtualBox instance, is there a way to set the
Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards
as the default?

Humans sometimes forget to tick this box, with the resulting horror of having different machines - on the same LAN - assigned the same IP address by the DHCP server.

Unfortunately there's no such provision at the moment.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Thanks.
Note that if the cloning is done from the CLI, then this provision is the default.

By Toutatis, you're right! From the manual on "VBoxManage clonevm":
... The next two options enable specification of the handling of MAC addresses of every virtual network card. They can either be reinitialized (the default), left unchanged (keepallmacs) or left unchanged when the network type is NAT (keepnatmacs).
So, unless you specifically include the "keepallmacs" option, the MACs are re-initialized. I think that this is an oversight from the GUI developers. I'll either try to get a hold of them on IRC, or file a ticket. Will keep you posted in any event...

We'll see what we can do... yes, it looks like a communication goof. Not sure yet if/when the change will make it to 5.2.
