We are aware of the current download problems for one of the extension pack links and for the Linux repositories and are working on fixing these. Thank you for your patience.

vm startup problem running vbox on win7 64. vb 5.2.18-124319

The vm is ubuntu 17-10, tho' not sure that that matters. To start the vm on win startup, from the vbox vm manager I've generated the shortcut to the vm on desktop & moved it to the win startup folder. For vb 5.2.14 release, and for 5.2.13 123149 running on other pcs it works & runs the vm on win startup

However, for vb 5.2.18 release and maybe for 5.2.16 too the vm doesn't start at startup, and I get a message box saying that it won't start 'startvm doesn't work for vbox vm' or or something similar. The vm does start ok manually from the vbox vm manager.

Going back to 5.2.14 w/o changing anything else fixes it.

Using the URL: /download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/el/$releasever/$basearch/ as provided by the Oracle Linux repo file from the virtualbox.org website, the new VirtualBox-5.2.18 package is not available to yum on CentOS EL7 (7.5.1804)

If the URL is changed to /download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/rhel/$releasever/$basearch/ the package can be seen by yum.

If you use a browser (I used firefox) to walk the directory structure It works because /download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/el/7/ is changed to /download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/rhel/7/.

This is the first release of an Oracle VirtualBox package that has demonstrated this misbehaviour, as far as I know.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

5.2.18 for fedora 26/27/28

Post by joukj »

Hi,

Is there a reason for the fact that version 5.2.18 is dropped from the repository for Fedora 26/27/28?
It is not in http:/download.virtualbox.or/virtualbox/rpm/fedora/26/x86_64

Regards
Jouk

Dropped? What do you mean "dropped"? There was an issue with the 5.2.18 update, as discussed in the 2nd post of the "Discuss the 5.2.18 release" post. Which is where I'm merging your question with.

Yum repo for Fedora 28 does not contain VirtualBox-5.2-5.2.18_124319_fedora26-1.x86_64.rpm

Post by ppp »

Yum repository (as in the file virtualbox.repo) for Fedora 26 and Fedora 28 seemingly point to the same place. However, in the repository for Fedora 28 the latest version of VirtualBox (VirtualBox-5.2-5.2.18_124319_fedora26-1.x86_64.rpm) is missing.

There is information and a potential workaround for this in the thread Discuss the 5.2.18 release.

I have Ubuntu and I'm getting rc=1908. I know it's a kernel fault; where can I find the patch?

The problem with CentOS EL7 (7.5.1804) is fixed for me. Thanks to anyone involved in that effort.

Re: VirtualBox 5.2.18 and the kernel 4.18

Post by al609 »

VirtualBox 5.2.18 manager runs on my Fedora 18 kernel 4.18.9 except it does not restore the status and tool bars on start-up (referenced in a forum note already).

However the real problem for me is that the Guest Additions will not compile without error for the shared folders module, and hence my updated guests no longer have that capability. Also I seem to have lost it in older guests that I have not tried to update, so perhaps the problem is in the host, not the guest.

Waiting for the next update as well as others.

I moved your post to the "Discuss the 5.2.18 release". I don't know about the status bar, but for the guest additions you should try the latest test builds (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds).
