[Solved] Using Windows 10 to start a Ubuntu Virtual Machine - Black Screen

Post by cedyd »

Hi I am a complete noob at this.

I have a VM Box for my class... It runs Ubuntu. I am using a Windows 10 PC.

Everytime I run the Ubuntu VM, I get a Black Screen..

Here is my log attached to the post.

I see no evidence that the file "Embedded Software.vdi" contains an installation of Ubuntu. It seems to make no attempt to boot.

Is it a 32bit Ubuntu? Because that's what you have selected.

The only other problems I see are:-
  • 32MB of graphics RAM seems a little low, you can easily afford 128MB.
  • You are assigning both cores of a dual core host for the VM. You can do that, but it means that the host can be slowed down by the guest and vice versa, since they are sharing cores.
  • You have not installed the extension pack, so things like USB2/USB3 will not work.
Did you install this Ubuntu yourself? It may be a lot simpler if you do.

Hi,
I solved! I had to choose the 64 bit version.

I'll mark this thread as solved.

I also changed my settings to 128MB of Graphic RAMs. And changed to allocate only a single core.

I'll look around the net to install the extension pack.

Thanks

That shouldn't be difficult, it's in the same Downloads area as your main VirtualBox.
