Snapshots: merge vs. revert
How do I tell when I discard a snapshot if it will be merged or will be reverted (deleted completely)?
I'll post my own response as it took me a bit of trial and error to figure this out.
Follow-up on 8/10: WHAT IS BELOW IS WRONG. I just lost a snapshot following my method below and I lost the snapshot. I'm again not sure how things work, but I'm sure it makes sense somehow.
To delete (discard ... or revert by the documentation terminology) you select the current state (not a snapshot) and select "Discard Current Snapshot and State." This will drop both the current state and the snapshot directly above it.
Selecting any snapshot anywhere in the chain and then selecting "Discard Snapshot" will actually merge the snapshot with the snapshot above it. Selecting the first snapshot will merge with the base drive image itself.
