Future compatibility

Post by pletharoe »

I know that nobody can see into the future but I have a question...

If I set up a virtual machine using the current software, then don't touch it for 10-20 years, will I have trouble running that virtual machine on the current systems?

Just had a feeling of deja vu as there is a similar (albeit slightly different) discussion going on here.

The likelihood of a physical host machine from 2018 booting reliably in 2038? Slim unless exceptionally good care is taken of it!

Chances of 2038 hardware running VirtualBox and a 2018 virtual machine? None (probably).

Yup. I can't believe these are separate discussions. Locking this one.
