<y virtualbox asks for a dmg. However, VM setup creates a vdi. I don't understand what I can do. Help?

Hint. The .vdi file is equivalent to the HDD of a physical machine. The dmg it is looking for is the equivalent of the OS install CD.

You have a vm but you do not yet have an OS on it.
