Hi. I cant seem to find any information on placing Guest HDDs on one of those external hard drives that connect to your router. What would the performance be like?
I have an external USB hard drive but performance on it is extremely slow. When I have the guest hdds on my internal SSD drives, performance is superb! The reason i'm looking at this alternative is because my SSDS are limited in capacity. I only have 128gb SSD drives (Two 64gb).
I"m trying to setup three linux hosts to install Oracle Database onto them for hands on practice to build my linux skills and Oracle Skills. In addition, I also have Windows Virtual Machines. you can see how the space adds up quick.
Will placing a Guest hdd onto an external hard drive that connects via ethernet be better performing than placing them on my external hdd connected via USB?
My specs are:
Sony Vaio Z (Z3)
Windows 10 Pro
Intel i7 3rd generation (3612) Quad Core 2.10ghz
8gb DDR Ram
128GB SSD Drive (2 64GB)
Guest HDDs on NAS external drive

Probably about what you'd expect when switch from a 3200MB/s internal connection to a 125MB/s network one (the latter may be a bit optimistic, it assumes you get 100% efficiency on a 1Gbs network connection).TechGuyChris wrote:What would the performance be like?
