Extension Pack version check?

Post by scottgus1 »

I was poking through the changelog for 5.0.14 (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=75802#p352649) and I saw a point where Extension Packs older than 4.3.30 are blacklisted.

Got me to wondering. Forum gurus say the extension pack version, if installed, should match the version of Virtualbox. When users post logs with differing version numbers between EP and VB, the go-to advice is to sync up. However, the changelog seems to me to imply one might use an older extension pack, and with 5.0.14, EP's older than 4.3.30 are no good.

Is it OK to have a version discrepancy between VB & EP? If so, when would such a setup be a good thing? Users are able to have discrepencies - if it's not good, should there be a check when Virtualbox starts to prevent it? (There might be, I've never tried to intentionally install the wrong version of the extension pack, I believe the gurus too much...)
