Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
Probably because the guest is open. You can't change most settings while the guest is running or in a Saved State.
But, Host>Guest DnD on my Windows 10 host to XP does not work with 3D acceleration enabled. It does work with it disabled so sounds like a different issue.

I don't know if it matters but I installed the guest additions in XP in safe mode.

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
Thanks for your help, but for some reasons I don't know, even with the VM not running, 3D acceleration is greyed out and unchecked.
So my configuration might be different than yours.
I installed the GAs in normal mode, but I don't know if it changes anything. At least something work: from Guest to Host...

For the purpose of access to settings, a suspended VM is considered to be still running.Lim wrote:Thanks for your help, but for some reasons I don't know, even with the VM not running, 3D acceleration is greyed out and unchecked.

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
Yes you are right, of course. I should have guess it myself.mpack wrote:For the purpose of access to settings, a suspended VM is considered to be still running.
So I shutdown the VM, set 3D acceleration, boot-up and one-way DnD (still with Bidirectional selected).
Then shutdown again, de-selected 3D acceleration, boot-up and.... same
I also slightly increased Video Memory in case it could help
Wonder what makes that DnD from Host to Guest not working

Some days I just feel like I'm typing to myself.loukingjr wrote:Probably because the guest is open. You can't change most settings while the guest is running or in a Saved State.
Did you try installing the guest additions in safe mode?

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
Sorry... never good to have a post at the top of a new page....
No I didn't try to install them at Safe Mode, because I don't know how to do it on a VM.
I'll look how to do.
But wonder why it would work in a way and not on the other for that reason...

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
Well, you can try tapping the F8 key when you launch the guest but it's hard to catch it just right.
What I do is…
1. From the XP Start Menu select run
2. Type in msconf. return
3. Go to the Boot tab and select Safe Boot
4. Restart the guest.
Once installed, re-run msconfig, select normal boot, restart the guest.

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
Then I don't know what's wrong. I only know one other person in the forums who couldn't DnD from a Windows 10 host to an XP guest and i have reasons to suspect he hacked his so much he would need to do a new install.
Perhaps someone else will have an idea.

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
I haven't hacked anything so far. It is a fresh install from this morning. Just followed the installation instructions.
Thank you loukingjr and for all the others, sorry for this long serie of posts... but I still hope to find the solution !

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
No problem. One thing you could do is import an XP appliance from Microsoft and see if that works for you.

Re: Discuss the 5.0.10 release
I was looking for something like that. Downloading in progress...
But if someone else has the solution for my current XP SP3 current VM...
---RESULT---
Hi guys,
So after a night of downloading IE8.XP.For.Windows.Virtualbox (which is made with VB 4.3), I updated the GA's with the 5.0.10 and did everything advised by loukingjr regarding the Safe Boot.
... and it worked !!!
So I went back to my own WinXP VM and it worked directly also (both ways), without doing anything more than yesterday.
So why does it work today, and not yesterday...
The only thing I have done in between is: SHUTING DOWN VB AND START IT AGAIN !!!
Is it the only reason why it works now ? I don't know but this is a good thing to do for those who experience a single-way DnD.
Thanks again for your patience and help.
Lim.
Happy!
