I have a linux host (openSuse 13.2 64 bit), with Windows and Linux guests.
The fonts on my Linux guest almost doubled in size when I upgraded
VirtualBox to 4.3.28. Changing the KDE settings in my Linux guests to force
96 DPI fonts worked around the issue - forcing the font DPI is not a "fix". Something
changed in VirtualBox 4.3.28 versus all previous versions that causes this issue.
I assume this is purely a Guest Additions issue?
I've had all of my guests for years without problem.

just a guess, my host uses RANDR1.1 my guest RANDR1.4. It could be that 4.3.28 doesn't support RANDR1.1 anymore.

Both my Host and Guest use xrandr 1.4.3..
As discussed in other threads, I and others have this font size issue starting with VB 4.3.28.

User reports say that the following 5.0 RC Additions build fixes the problem:

https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 100817.iso

The changes which we think fixed it were also back-ported to 4.3, and are available in the latest test builds<1> (specifically the Guest Additions: to test them you do not need to re-install VirtualBox on your host system), but we have not yet had confirmation of the fix for 4.3.

michael, I'm about to test the new 5.0 rc GA build but where was it mentioned before? Or was it?

Sorry, didn't quite follow that. The GA build does not contain the fix, but the Additions build linked to two comments up does contain it. You can re-install the Additions in a guest from that build (including on a host running 4.3.x) without re-installing VirtualBox on the host. Just insert the virtual disk image into the guest and run the Additions installer as usual.

sorry, GA=Guest Additions. The new 5.0 additions worked. About to test the 4.3 version.

my question was really about where I would have seen info the font issue was addressed.

But actually I said it on this thread because I did not expect people to know from other sources (not everyone browses the bug tracker regularly...)

I for one don't. I guess I better start. :)

BTW, we were told not to post bug reports for 5.0 on bugtracker so wasn't the first place I would have gone looking for one. 8)

Host: openSUSE v13.2, 64 bit, VB 4.3.28
Guest: openSUSE v13.2, 64 bit, VB 4.3.28 GA's

I've verified that installing the VBoxGuestAdditions_4.3.29-100833.iso
.resolves the "oversized fonts" issue in KDE (openSUSE v13.2, 64 bit guest).

In the KDE control panel "Application Appearance/Fonts" I set "Force fonts DPI: 96" back to
"disabled" - the usual default.
A reboot brought back the "oversized fonts" problem.
Installing the test Guest Additions 4.3.29-100833 then rebooting brought all fonts back to normal.

Thanks

If it works in NAT, and you can ping in bridge, then the issue is most certainly not with VirtualBox
