Mouse/keyboard sequences for Ubuntu cut-and-paste ?

I have a non-graphical Ubuntu installed inside VirtualBox under Windows.
I've installed VBoxGuestAdditions (and enabled bidirectional Drag'n'Drop - for the hell of it).

However, none of the following will paste to the guest OS:
  • Shift+Ins
  • Ctrl+v
  • Ctrl+Shift+v
  • Pressing right-click and left-click simultaneously (this emulates a middle-click on my laptop's two keys touch-pad).
What are the sequences for mouse/keyboard cut-and-paste in non-graphical Ubuntu under VirtualBox?

Environment:
  • VirtualBox: 4.3.12 r93733
  • VBoxGuest: 4.3.12
  • Guest OS: Linux ubuntu 3.13.0-32-generic #57~precise1-Ubuntu SMP x86_64
  • Host OS: Windows 7

Without X I don't see anything that is going to help.

Compare this situation to Cygwin: there you can cut-and-paste to a mintty window - without needing X-windows.
Reasonable to expect that cut-and-paste from host/guest would work on VirtualBox also.

Maybe true but you are not using cygwin.

from the Cygwin page…
X server 1.17 and X.Org X11 Release 7.7 are now included in Cygwin.

mintty can do cut-and-paste when the X-windows server is not in memory.

The good thing is VirtualBox is open source and if you want to provide the code to make it happen I am sure everyone will be grateful.

Here is one possible solution I found with no trouble…
I recommend installing ssh server, then connecting to the VM with the SSH client of your choice, e.g. PuTTY - this offers not only easy cut&paste, but also a resizable text console and other goodies. – Eugen Rieck
Do I know what it means or how to implement it? nope.

That's an interesting idea to fall back on if natural cut-and-paste solution is not found. Thanks.

Cut/Paste should be removed, since it doesn't work. Or at least identify which hosts are supported. Doesn't work between Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu server.

Cut and Paste works on my OSX, Linux and Windows hosts so I would rather it not be removed TYVM.

That's right if only 95% of the users can use it then it should go away.

Seriously you can find a replacement really easy.
