Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
I see. I went to the site to see if I could download a demo but I would have to register which I'm not up for. You are getting a guru mediation error but I don't know why myself. mpack or someone more familiar with Windows can probably help once they are online.

Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
I was looking at your log and noticed you have the two VHD files plus a vdi file?
Just guessing but I would think you want the two vhd files attached to the VM and NO .vdi file. I could be wrong.

one comment said you may need 12GB of ram which you don't have. It does seem like one VHD contains the program and the OS and the other data. Which means you shouldn't have a .vdi file at all.

Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
The actual error is a triple fault, which in my experience happens when the VM does something unexpected. Frankly, I would expect trouble trying to get a Hyper-v VM to run in VirtualBox, especially if the host requirements are onerous. I would suggest creating your own VM, rather than trying to use one from a foreign VM platform.

It seems there are people who have mounted the VHDs in VirtualBox. However, from this last link they are recommending Hosts with 24-32GBs of RAM which the OP doesn't have.

Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
I have ordered another 16GB of ram and will update case once received and installed. Thank you for your assistance to date.

Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
Pete, I hope you didn't think adding more RAM was going to fix your problem. I was only pointing out once you had it running it likes a fair amount of memory to run well. I think you might want to follow the tutorial from the link I posted and make sure all steps were followed.Pete353 wrote:hi,

Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
I have seen various posts from people who claim they have transferred a Hyper-V .vhd to VirtualBox, but it has never worked for me. I admit that I didn't ever spend a lot of time trying to debug the problems. It was not a high priority option, just curiosity.loukingjr wrote:Some further info…

Re: Critical Error when starting Virtual Box
I never have either. Having read through the tutorial it seems like a lot of work even using Hyper-v. More work than I am willing to do just to see if it will work in VirtualBox.BillG wrote: I have seen various posts from people who claim they have transferred a Hyper-V .vhd to VirtualBox, but it has never worked for me. edit: FWIW here is a Google search result link for anyone who wants to wade through the links. Google Search
