Audio delays, sound lag, and sync problems

Hello. I am running Ubuntu 11.04, and XP as a guest system.

However, I am experiencing sometimes quite-significant audio delays, and was wondering if I was the only one to which those kinds of things were happening.

Alternatively: does the audio work synced for anyone? Or is it the same problem for everyone?

Bump.

May the problem be because I am selecting a Intel AC'97 controller on the guest machine, however having disabled that very controller from the motherboard of the host system through the BIOS?

no, the emulated AC97 is not related to real hardware, its connected to the host audio driver you select in the guest settings: alsa, pulseaudio, oss or null. I'm using alsa on my Debian boxes and don't have any sensible lag, OTOH i don't do sound editing and the like in my guests.

thanks for the idea, fixedwheel.

i have just (seemingly) solved all the audio-sync problems i had through switching over to alsa in the guest-machine settings.

so (as always) pulseaudio was to blame ... :P
