I am running a backup software. I can backup the vdi if i manually pause the virtual machine, but i cannot backup the machine if its live.
my question is this, the backup software has a area where i can put pre and post commands for the backup.
what is the command or the file i create so that i can input that into the backups pre command and post command to resume the machine.
I am running server 2k8 enterprise with eusus "todo" backup software. All i am wanting is to get a proper image of the vdi file to a backup location.
Thank you all for your help.. Please let me know. Thank you again!

See Chapter 8 VBoxManage in your VirtualBox users manual. It has all of the CLI commands and switches.

Use shadowcopy, works perfectly on live vm's.

what do you mean shadow copy, the service in microsoft?vbox4me2 wrote:Use shadowcopy, works perfectly on live vm's.
i have tried to use other backup utilities like shadow protect with shadow copy and it comes back failed everytime.
I have 3 machines running, they were migrated from microsoft virtual server and vhd to the vdi.
on two of them, the backup works perfectly, no hiccups, on the webserver it fails it. I tried to manually pause and ran backup and it worked perfectly.
is "shadow copy" its own software?

I really dont mind the outburst..
when someone says shadowcopy and pretty much every backup comes up with that service i will keep asking which one do you mean.
do i mean to upset anyone, no, i dont.
I thought this was a community where we can ask questions any questions. Since i am not familiar with this and i am doing it on my own for my companies sake, i dont mind the hand holding if someone out there is willing to help or assist.
I will say this, why dont the super users just ignore questions out there instead of putting down the person asking the question, what i cant stand is someone who refers to a question with a question without helping. ( not directed at you vbox3me.. just some other posts i have read )
I am not perfect but if you look at my facebook josebauzo@hotmail.com you will see that i teach people how to ride a sportbike on a track. i never ever complain or put anyone down because i volunteered to help. if someone on here doesnt want to help or wants to rant about helping, then the volunteer should make himself not available to the not so perfect person asking a "dumb" question to them.
I will keep asking questions, for those that truely enjoy helping, i will accept any help given. I am learning not a troll!
