How to update from 1.3.8 to 1.4.0

Post by gusgan »

Should I uninstall Windows-version 1.3.8 before installing 1.4.0 or can I install the new version over the old one (will the existing VM's be kept?)

The advice has always been to remove and then re-install.

We will see in anyone advises otherwise.
If is a virtual machine, is it still broken ?

Since Innotek released repositories for VirtualBox 1.4, will it be possible to upgrade to future versions without uninstalling the previous one?

For now, we do not plan to support upgrade installations. This is a non-trivial thing to do with MSI and as we also issue testbuilds during two releases, it is quite risky. So just uninstall and install. Starting with VirtualBox 1.4, reboots are no longer necessary.

Hello,

I succesfully upgraded from 1.3.8 to 1.4.0 using the repository upgrade on Ubuntu 7.04.

I had a Window XP host installed and all seems to be working very well.

Best wishes.
