Copy/paste between guest and host stops working
Re: Copy/paste between guest and host stops working
When the shared clipboard didn't work for me in earlier releases, I made use of:

Doesn't appear to work at all (even after fresh boot) for openSUSE 11.1 guest on a Vista x64 host. Odd since it works fine for Solaris guests.

You can add yourself to this ticket http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5266
You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.

Wouldn't it be much simpler if the forum administrators themselves opened the bug tickets about those problems they consider worthy of being reported?
Or, maybe better, why aren't forum registered users given the opportunity to access that "different system" without having to create a new specific account just to post there the same messages they have already written here?

This is just the way it is. Either register and post or do not.
The forum administrators are the DEVs and they do not come here often.
They are working the bugtracker and trying to get their work done. Filling out the reports would kind of defeat the purpose.
The Mods and Volunteers have filled out the tickets, but we don't do it for you.
I am the one that created the original ticket.
If you want to be notified when the fix is available then you have to put your name on the list.

Is there any other benefit to adding your name to the list? Does it help the dev team to prioritise bug fixes?Perryg wrote: If you want to be notified when the fix is available then you have to put your name on the list.

Other then letting them know that there are others having this problem besides just me and maybe one or two others?
It puts your name in the notify pool when they have something to check, do, or when there is a fix available.

Re: Copy/paste between guest and host stops working
same happens for me, I use VirtualBox 3.1.6-59338 on Debian Lenny with Windows 7 Professional guest. Guest additions are up2date as well.
same symptoms - text copy/paste from guest to host occasionally stops working for some reason, so far I don't see any system in that failures. It works OK from host to guest and inside guest. I tried to restart VirtualBox Guest Additions service inside guest but it does not help.
I would love to:
1) Provide any additional information which might help to get this fixed.
2) Find out if there is any way to fix this without VM restart.
UPDATE - oops sorry, just saw the link to the ticket, will review it.
UPDATE 2 - if someone misses the ticket like me, it seems that for guest Windows machines killing and restarting VBoxTray.exe helps (I didn't try yet). And if someone has 100% reliable and easy steps to reproduce - please comment in the ticket.

Re: Copy/paste between guest and host stops working
This has got to be THE only and most annoying thing about VirtualBox, and I have registered just to express how spastic it has become.
There isn't a single day when my copy/paste from my WinXP guest to my Fedora 12 host doesn't stop working.
Latest version 3.1.6 and guest additions fully updated.

Re: Copy/paste between guest and host stops working
This may be useful - I have found that the shared clipboard in the xvnc4viewer acts the same way - after a short time, I can no longer copy from the remote machine to the ubuntu host, but can still copy from the host's clipboard to the remote machine.
If these are related, it suggests there's something going on with ubuntu's clipboard that prevents the contents being altered/set by another process perhaps ?

This problem happens with me, too, sometimes after a couple of hours, sometimes after several.

Same problem here. It works again after I reboot the guest OS, then it stops working after I save the guest OS machine status and load it again next time.
