just d/loaded 2.2 for win. XP
doesn't seem to allow me to choose a bridge device - droplist is empty - no wlan or wired
scanned manual and can't find any ref to telling vbox about real interfaces.
seems like an unlikely bug!? anyone got it working?

(i check the windows version before attempting to upgrade on my REAL system - linux!)

regards nogg

Just downloaded the windows version of VB2.2.0, and hit problems (for the first time using VB!):

Is there now only one version - and not versions for x86 and AMD64?

The windows version refused to install on my x86 system running windows 2003 server, and ended with the message that "an error has occurred" ... but gives no clue as to what the error might be. Anyone else hitting a similar problem?

I also had problems with bridged networking on a Windows Vista host. The drop down list of interfaces is empty. I tried rebooting but no luck, so I decided to uninstall it and try again, however it refused to uninstall. In the end I had to use system restore to get back to a working 2.1.4 installation.

Since this version, they hid the additional configuration of Bridged and Host-Only networking behind a button, right next to the dropdown box. I complained about this during the first beta, that it would cause quite some problems and questions on the forums, but they ignored me. This just happens when they don't really listen to feedback.

yup awful isn't it - and its only a couple of little options that its hiding, but they're quite important. did they want to save screen space, or not confuse the n00bs with what a mac address is?

upgrade went fine on fedora 10 64-bit host.

new install of 32-bit ubuntu 8.10 guest had invisible mouse pointer after GA install, so reinstalled additions, now i have no mouse integration. from a search of the forums this has already been noticed, but not reported as a bug so not fixed i guess. update: i take it back, on the 3rd GA install mouse integration works!

3d acceleration doesn't work either it seems: "desktop effects could not be enabled" - is the changelog just a work of fiction?!

guest os updates that worked:
  • 64-bit debian 5.0
    32-bit win2003r2-sp2
64-bit solaris 10u6 (guest resizing still segfaults gnome)
    64-bit opensolaris 2008.11
    32-bit centos 4.7
    32-bit centos 5.3

Running 2.2.0 r45846...

I've upgraded on three machines that were previously running 2.1.4. Same problem occurs on all. The VM gets paused with low-host memory error. Thing is, the same VDI's ran on the exact same machines in 2.1.4 without low host memory error. I've dropped guest memory usage to get to work, but why would I want to drop from 2GB on Guest to 1GB when host has 4GB??

In all cases, the guest O/S is Xp Pro and the host O/X varies. One is XP Pro, one is Vista32 and one Vista 64.

What's up with the low host memory issue now appearing on all my installs?

Thanks,
Jason

Check http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16126. You need to either disable the checks, or whitelist the vboxvideo driver.

same here, i cannot select a bridged network adapter.. "not selected" is the only available option.
bridged networking was working fine with the previous virtualbox version 2.1.4.

NAT no longer works, is the network driver on the host required? If it is I think that sucks, because I don't want it since it just one more thing that will cause a BSOD, and it seems there are or have been BSODs related to host networking.

I can't get an IP w/ NAT. The NIC is still there. XP host and guest.

I set the guest to a static IP and it is working. There's no mention that the DHCP server was removed.

Great piece of work. Thank you VBox developers!

Nice splash screen, and the added benefit of accelerated graphics is appreciated.

All in all the update was flawless with VBox picking up and converting all of my previous stuff.

One little glitch but that was a combination of myself and Vista.

Had to reinstall VB 2.2 and tell it to repair the first install of 2.2 because I was too lazy to un-install 2.14 and Vista did not install it correctly the first time. That being said VBox came to the rescue and did pick up the failure and correct it.

Hats off!

Looks like a great release but I am curious, why do we have a single .exe installer. I loved having 32/64 bit msi installers available.
