Can't read USB - Error 0x80070057

Postby Natacha » 3. Mar 2009, 14:12

Hello,

I am a Virtual Box newbie.

I installed VB on my PC and installed Win XP as a virtual machine.

I read sections in the manual, but I still do not understand the USB section:

In this USB section, they talk about PS2 and filters ? As seen below, they show my external HD, but not my USB key:

When I try to add USB when I am in my VB, I get this error:

Is someone can explain me how to get USB stuff work correctly.

Thank you very much,

Natacha

Try searching for USB related issues, the VM needs to have focus(click on it) before you plug in a usb device.

Thank you Vbox4me2, I appreciate your help.

I tried to plug USB after and one of the 2 worked. As seen, the USB key works fine:

However, I can't make it work for the Western Digital external HD. When I click on it, there's a new error message, saying it is busy with a previous request. Even I restart the VB programme, the error windows box still apprears.

Can you help me again ? Sorry for my newbie knowledges :-)

Thank you again.

Thank you again vbox4me2,

I removed the filters, and I restart the Virtual PC.

Now, the PC seems to see the USB key, but it does not seem to see the WD external HD: I unplugged and re-plugged this device, but I can't see it. :(

Dear vbox4m2,

You fixed it !

I applied two "empty" filters, and I got my 2 USB devices working. (still don't know why... lol 8) )... but it works great !

Thank you very much for your time and help.

So these are some primary reasons that make the error to happen. The complete list in unknown and may be running, and there is no use to learn the reason in depth. Instead, you need to focus on the solutions that will eliminate any type of issue regarding the 0x80070057 error.
#1 Perform an SFC Scan
#2 Try SFCFIX 3.0
#3 Modify the Registry Key Value
#4 Try Tweaking the WINDOWS UPDATE AGENT
