Networking a virtual network through the host

I want to create a virtual network running a Win2000 server and a client XP pro machine - hosted on an XP laptop. I would like to set the configuration up so that the VPC's have internet connectivity, but the Win2000 server can run DNS, DHCP, and be the Domain Controller in control of the client PC. like in a production enviroment. I attempted to setup 2 NICS on the Win2000 VPC - one with NAT and one with the Internal Network adaptor, but it dosn't seem to work. Any help would be appreciated.
