Linux guest not responding after ~5 min with locked screen on Windows 10 host

Post by irenaeus135 »

Hello all,

I run an Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS on Windows 10.0.19045 with Virtual Box 6.1.40 r154048.

I have the reproducible behavior that the guest system does not respond to input after I locked the host system for more than 5 minutes (but usually it lasts half an hour until I return from lunch break).
The guest system shows nearly 100% CPU load in the performance monitor (Machine -> Session information) although I execute nothing special, it's simply a running Ubuntu. The host system has higher CPU load also, but responds fluently to user input.

What did I try?
  • I switched off all energy saving options that I could get hands on in Windows 10, but it still appears.
  • I experimented with different settings for the virtual machine, but as far as now I did not find a suitable configuration.
Do you have any idea what might be the problem?
To be able to suggest a solution I append ...
  • my settings for this virtual machine (it occurs no matter whether 1 or many CPU cores are assigned)
  • a log file.
Feel free to ask for further information.

Best regards

Why didn't you just zip the log instead of breaking it into pieces?

Reduce CPU cores to 2.

Ditch Hyper-v.

00:00:03.833381 NEM: WHvCapabilityCodeHypervisorPresent is TRUE, so this might work...
See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).

That's a large number of snapshots: I hope you have a backup of this VM!

Thank you for the quick response!
I''ll try and come back with a report.

Couldn't I just delete the snapshots?

Yes you can - but make the backup first.

Hello mpack,

I followed the instructions and clearly disabled Hyper-V.
The problem is gone :D -- Thank you much for your quick support!

The VMM Load is still high after a compile job, but this seems to be a statistics glitch, if I am informed correctly. The load of the host CPU is low.

This enables me to work more effective, thanks!
