ova vs ovf

Post by Tofu355 »

Hello: Vbox newbie here. I am trying to set up a VBox vm using a .ova image to import as an appliance, but the latest Vbox 6.1.36 install apparently will only import .ovf

Do I have to find and install an earlier version of Vbox to be able to use .ova appliances? If so, where do I find an earlier version that will recognize .ova?

Many Thanks!

Latest is not 6.1.36. It is 6.1.40 on the 6.1 series or 7.0.0 on the latest release from a few weeks ago.

See the VirtualBox 6.1.40 User Guide Section 1.14; and particularly Section 1.14.2 for the a step-by-step import processs.

And I can assure you that 6.1.36 does support import of OVA appliances, because I just tested it (Windows host).

Perhaps you should better explain why you think it doesn't work.
