Installation error 1406

Post by murthyn »

I am trying to install VirtualBox-6.1.34a-150636-Win in Windows 11 system. I am getting an error "Product: Oracle VM VirtualBox 6.1.34 -- Error 1406. Could not write value to key \Software\Classes\Interface\{00391758-00B1-4E9D-0000-11FA00F9D583}. System error . Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel". Please help me in resolving the issue.
Thanks, Murthy

The user has both FullControll and Read permissions to the registry key specified in the error message.

This error is very rare. Since it happens during install, it's actually a Windows Installer error, not a Virtualbox error. The Virtualbox installer is really a Microsoft Installer program that carries the Virtualbox payload. Something in your host computer OS is interfering with the Virtualbox install script's commands. We don't know what's interfering, though, since it's not something that can be altered by Virtualbox.

Try these:
Restart the host PC.
Disable all security software real-time scanning.
Right-click the Virtualbox installer and choose Run As Administrator, even if the account already has admin privileges.

Are you running an Insider Preview version of 11?
