software virtualization

Post by WacoJohn »

This is stated at the Virtualbox download page
If you're looking for the latest VirtualBox 6.0 packages, see VirtualBox 6.0 builds. Please also use version 6.0 if you need to run VMs with software virtualization, as this has been discontinued in 6.1. Version 6.0 will remain supported until July 2020.
My intention is to run Zorin -64 and Mint -64 on a W10 Pro -64 laptop. I have tried several times to do this with VirtualBox 6.1.28 but it has not worked out. I get an error which I am unfortunately unable to recall. (sorry).

All I want to know is do I need to install VB 6.0? I am a rookie and not sure what is meant by
software virtualization
Thank you in advance for any help.

"software virtualization" refers to trying to run a hypervisor, like Virtualbox, without the host PC having hardware virtualization (Intel VT-x, AMD/V, SVM) enabled. Most modern PCs have hardware virtualization.

6.1.28 has a bug on Windows 10. Use 6.1.26 for now, see https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds_6_1

Best answer I can give is the two VMs would not run. Gave an error which I have not retained.
