Thanks for the log files. Unfortunately, all additional vCPUs are in a similar state. I could see a lot of aspects that seem to not play a role, but couldn't discover the cause of the triple-fault.

I noticed something else that may or may not play a role: The display resolution of the VM window was either 1112x847 or 1190x834. Please start the VM, change the display resolution to a well-known one (e.g. VirtualBoxVM > View > Virtual Screen 1 > Resize to 1024x768), and shut the VM down from within the guest OS. Afterwards, try to reproduce the crash.

I set the resolution and it still crashed.

Any idea who would make the fix?

A VirtualBox developer. ;)

First, please update to the current VirtualBox 6.1.24. Is the crash still reproducible?

If yes, I'd suggest to create a ticket in the VirtualBox Bugtracker and attach a VBox.log file with 2 vCPUs.

Okay - I didn't know if it was some hardware issue. Still crashing on 6.1.24; logged bug https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/20468.

Thanks much - appreciate the help!

Just in case it makes any difference I am having the exact same issue with a different setup. At least I know just to power off rather than reboot to prevent errors which is not ideal but better that it was a couple of hours ago. I have chosen to keep the multiple CPUs for now and I do not want to migrate to non-EFI.

The info on this thread really helps and hopefully Oracle will fix it.

Host
Windows 10 Pro 20H2 / 8GB RAM
VirtualBox v6.1.30 r148432 (Qt5.6.2)

Guest
CentOS Linux (using Red Hat Profile)
2 CPUs
Running CWP Control Web Panel

Thanks for the input to this thread. What CPU does your host have?
