How do I fix audio delays and sound lag problems

Currently I'm try to play Sakura Wars 1 on my Windows XP virtual machine I have noticed a sound delay of 1-2 seconds which messes with the games voice acting and button prompts. Is there any way to fix this?
I am using Virtual Box Version 6.1.22 and installed Guest Additions

Please try a VirtualBox 6.1.23 test build.

The audio functionality underwent extensive changes, and the VirtualBox developers are interested in getting positive as well as negative feedback regarding audio playback and recording. Please mention the host OS, the guest OS, the
Host Audio Driver and the
Audio Controller (from the VM configuration in
Settings > Audio), and describe any misbehavior as detailed as possible. Thanks in advance.
