The changelog mentions this:
Linux Guest Additions: Fixed issue when it was not possible to run executables from mounted share (bug #20320)
The forum's typical advice has been that Virtualbox Shared Folders (which I understand these "mounted shares" to be) have never officially supported running scripts or executables from the VSF. VSF's were designed only for manual copying of files from the VSF to the VM's disk and back.

Is this accurate? Or was the intent of VSFs to be a full "shared folder" experience, like a real shared folder over a network can do?

Or are these "mounted shares" real shared folders?

I second that, it is very annoying.

Does anyone have context for "VMM: Improved performance of 64-bit Windows and Solaris guests when Hyper-V is used on recent Windows 10 hosts" to be able to put it into perspective?

How much slower than normal was a Windows guest before (when Hyper-V is enabled on the host) and how much slower is it now with 6.1.22?

No, it isn't :( The only workaround is to disable the sound at all.

That issue was not mentioned in the changelog, and indeed I just tested it and the exact symptoms remain as described in the 6.1.20 discussion topic.

It has only been a bit more than a week since the last release, hence I assume that this is an urgent fix for another problem, perhaps the LsiLogic controller one. Hopefully we can expect audio tweaks to come along in a more usual timescale.

Regarding the shared folders question from Scottgus: I don't think it has ever been the stated intention of the devs to actively sabotage all use of GA shared folders for tasks other than copying files! I'm assuming that improving the range of practical functions was just low priority. I'm guessing that whatever blocked this on Linux VMs was pretty trivial to fix, e.g. present a different set of default permissions.

6.1.22.144080 update

Post by Gillykaboose »

Just finished installing the new update on 3 VM's all running Windows 7 32 bit. All three machines are generating a pulsating ringing sound in the background. This was not occuring in the previous versions ... any suggestions as to how to stop / disable? It still continues even when the speaks a put on mute ..... Have tried shutting down and restarting ..no joy? disabled mics and camera ..keeps persisting ...

Same echo issue here since 6.1.20. Forced to downgrade to v6.1.18 and all's fine.
I always update applying default settings and never experienced sound issues.
Seems I'll never update again?

Upgraded to 6.1.22 - sounds now play in a broken loop.
The cracking sounds (could not keep up with sound buffer) on youtube etc have gotten worse.

This is a throwaway /worse than before build. Returning to 6.1.18

Anyone having an issue with the guest repainting randomly/badly at random times?
Screen randomly goes garbled and a second or two later the screen repaints.

Also - excel doesn't paint cells properly and scrolling down.

Which "screen" are you talking about?

Guest display, windows 10.
Seems somehow related to "auto resize guest display". Somehow it was occasionally resizing the display when there was no actual change. Odd.
Also had my first guest windows 10 “Critical Structure Corruption” reboot. (was actually resizing the display at the time).
Thats on top of the audio is broken after new release (playing part of a noise over and over)

Just seems life became a bit weirder after installing the new version. [ wanted to mention some weird things here to see if other people were having the same problems]

@ReallyVirtual.

Your original post did not mention a Windows 10 guest.

I now take it that you are discussing rendering issues in the virtual monitor of a Win10 guest. In which case: disable 3D acceleration, boot the guest and disable transparency effects, also make sure the Guest Additions are installed, shut down the guest and re-enable 3D acceleration.

And fyi: the transparency effects issue is not new in 6.1.22.
