Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 7.0.6 release
FranceBB, thanks for this report! I moved it out of the Beta forum, since 7.0 is technically out of beta, though bug-hunting is still very much going on. I understand that the devs may be monitoring the "Discuss" topics, so I put it here.
Please make a Bugtracker ticket about this, with a zipped log attached.

VBox 155730 Black Screen on Windows XP
I have installed Virtual Box 7.0.97-155730, it seemed fine initially, but after installing GuestAdditions Windows XP boots into a black screen. To uninstall GuestAdditions, I had to force shutdown the VM, then change the display setting from VBoxVGA to VMSVGA, then uninstall GuestAdditions.
Note: installing GuestAdditions 7.0.7-155584 did not help, still got black screen. But installing GuestAdditions 7.0.6-155176 worked, the screen is visible and can be resized easily !!!
BTW, GuestAdditions 7.0.97-155730 works fine on Windows 7 (32bit) even if the display is set to VBoxVGA.

Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 7.0.6 release
I am probably going to dump virtualbox 7.0.x and wait for 7.1.
It can't get through a whole minute running ubuntu (guest) without crashing.

Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 7.0.6 release
A minor annoyance in the 7.x branch...
When starting a VM from the 'Oracle VM Virualbox Manager' window, I typically shut down this window right after clicking-on and starting my VM, but with 7.x you have to wait until the VM has started to boot fully, or you get an error and the VM fails to start: "RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE/0x800706ba (0X800706BA)". Was never an issue with 6.x
Cheers,
Mike.

Using Host-only Network in VirtualBox 7.0.6 fails every time
I upgraded to VirtualBox 7.0.6 on my Mac development machine.
I tried to boot an existing CentOS guest, which we have configured using the Host-only Adapter. I was informed that that is now deprecated, and a Host-only Network connection was created for me.
Whenever I try booting with it, however, it fails. I can boot with Internal Network, but not Host-only Network. I've followed a bunch of instructions I've found online for fixing this (clearing various system settings, uninstalling/reinstalling VirtualBox, updating Guest Additions, etc), but it continues not to work. Anyone know a way around this? Here's the error:
Error: vmnet_start_interface returned 1001 (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER).
Failed to attach the network LUN (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0X80004005)
Component:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {6ac83d89-6ee7-4e33-8ae6-b257b2e81be8}
----------
EDIT: It looks like this was caused by VirtualBox's upgrade path being broken.
The created Virtual Network had parameters that didn't match those expected by the VM or somewhere else along the line.
When I deleted the Virtual Network that VirtualBox created upon upgrade, and recreated it, it worked.
Looks like someone should change the upgrade path in the installer.

Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 7.0.6 release
Hi all. In the new version, the tab in the settings disappeared. Previously, there was a network tab in the VirtualBox global settings. Now she is gone. Where did she move to?

03/01/2023 Test VirtualBox-7.0.97-156054-Win: Host = Windows 11, Guest = Windows 11
VBoxGuestAdditions_7.0.97-155989
Using the 'new' 3D engine: VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "VBoxInternal/Devices/vga/0/Config/VMSVGA10" ""
3D acceleration enabled Start menu (Windows Desktop) appears transparent→3D applications run 'very' fast
3D acceleration disabled The computer crashes on the Windows desktop (after a few seconds)
→ doesn't work
Deactivate the 'new' 3D engine: VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "VBoxInternal/Devices/vga/0/Config/VMSVGA10" "0"
3D acceleration enabled Computer crashes on Windows desktop after a few seconds

VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.43-155609
Using the 'new' 3D engine: VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "VBoxInternal/Devices/vga/0/Config/VMSVGA10" ""
3D acceleration enabled crashes on Boot (black screen)
3D acceleration disabled works

Deactivate the 'new' 3D engine: VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "VBoxInternal/Devices/vga/0/Config/VMSVGA10" "0"
3D acceleration enabled works→3D applications run at speed of version 6.x
3D acceleration disabled works
→works
It can be seen that the new version 7 in combination with the guest additions of version 7 brings a leap in 3D performance ... if it then works reliably. For now, i will stay with version 6.
By the way... thanks to the developers of VirtualBox. A very good product...if anyone involved in the development is reading this.

Thank you to the devs and forum helpers.
Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 7.0.6 release
I'm seeing a bug where virtio NICs show up as "Non-VGA unclassified device" when running "lspci" in the VM. With 6.1.42 they show up as "Ethernet controller". I've opened a bug report at https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21547

Re: Virtualbox Guest Addition 7.0.7 155584 break VBoxVGA on XP
Also happening with 7.0.97-155730 as another user, Simple07, reported:FranceBB wrote:Hi there,
as part of the testing program, this is just to let you know that the new development snapshot 7.0.7 155584 drivers break VBoxVGA on Windows XP, in fact after installing and rebooting the screen becomes completely black.
How to reproduce:
1) Download VirtualBox 7.0.7 155584 https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... _amd64.run
2) Install Extensions Pack 7.0.7 155601 https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... ox-extpack
3) Download Guest Addition 7.0.7 155584 https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 155584.iso
4) Install the new Extensions Pack
5) Boot XP in Safe Mode
6) Install the new Guest Additions
7) Reboot in normal mode
the screen will then be blank, however the VM is responsive and you can easily turn it off via ACPI command from the Virtualbox interface.
Reverting to the Guest Addition 7.0.6 155176 fixes the issues: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... _7.0.6.iso
and now I tried Virtualbox 7.0.97 r156271 from March 13th 2023 and sure enough it's still happening.Simple07 wrote:I have installed Virtual Box 7.0.97-155730, it seemed fine initially, but after installing GuestAdditions Windows XP boots into a black screen. Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 7.0.6 release
I'm using this version with Win host and with "Memory integrity" problems. VMs only work if "Memory integrity" is disabled.
