How to maintain Hyper-V guest virtual drives
Hello, We've got a VM deployed in a Windows Server 2012 R2, Hyper-V session. I need to do some maintenance on the VM guest drive, and my best chances for success I believe are with VirtualBox, especially for its USB support. To do this, I believe the following are necessary, more or less: Detach VHD...

Re: Ubuntu Guest second disk not ready
Thank ye. I'm acclimating to the conventions for directories as you can tell. That helps though. And probably saves some pain later admin-wise.

Re: Ubuntu Guest second disk not ready
Pretty sure I did, or my fstab entry isn't quite right. I somewhat modeled the last line after the first one (somewhat). I can mount it afterwards, after logging in. But I want it available prior to user-login. <fstab> # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to...

Ubuntu Guest second disk not ready
Hello, I added a second VHD disk to my Linux Ubuntu guest OS. For the most part, it works great. I'm a Linux novice in many areas yet, so it's a bit clumsy to get it connected some times, but it works. I am noticing when the VM starts that it's not ready to mount. Is there a way to prioritize that w...

Attaching to a backed up Windows 8 VHD
Hello,
Seems like over a year since there were any Windows 8 concerns (2011?) TBD whether I can do a full Windows 8 system backup to a VHD. Provided I can, I should think I could just attach this to a VM of its own? Does this sound at all doable?
Regards,
Michael

Capture machine as VirtualBox VM
Hello,
Is it possible to backup a computer into a VirtualBox environment? We've got a Windows 8 desktop that I'd like to capture as a VM; I'm told that VMware can do something like that. Question is whether VB can? Or what would it take?
Thanks...

And I think VERY responsive; much more so than Ubuntu, but is probably a function of I don't have the Gnome interface getting in the way.

Re: Tired question: Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 performance
Ah! So after Googling for details, apparently you open a terminal window and run: sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-mint . Don't know why that is. When you do that, the install runs a bit quicker I think and runs to success, you restart, and voila! You have a Linux Mint to work with upon restart.

Re: Tired question: Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 performance
Possibly back to Linux distro hell for me... I started a VB Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon install going. Hard drive set for 120 GB differencing. Then the installer crashed part way through the process. Can you recommend a Linux distro; Ubuntu earlier flavors? Mint possibly not 14, since it's fresh? Obvious...

Re: Tired question: Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 performance
I suspect you have encountered the (LLVM) issue and this should be fixed in the next maintenance release. Yes I believe so. Question: next maintenance release of what? Ubuntu? VB? I'm gathering Ubuntu from the context. Linux Mint is acceptable as well but I use the cinnamon desktop instead of mate ...

Tired question: Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 performance
Hello, Bearing in mind I am somewhat of a Linux newbie when it comes to sifting through distribution hell. I want to decide between Ubuntu distributions which one to go with, or possibly abandon Ubuntu altogether for something like Mint (so I'm told). I have discovered to my chagrin that 12.10 serve...

Re: How to move VirtualBox files off C:
Re: it's a good thing, fair enough. Understood these are differencing disks: from a file management perspective, they are guid-named files. How hard is it to administer files? VirtualBox version: 4.1.18.78361 C: has 32 GB out of a mere 250 GB (it's solid state, FAST, but also VERY SMALL); which is w...

Re: How to move VirtualBox files off C:
To clarify, I change it to Other... in the Advanced options, and click OK. Then I return to the Settings and verify, it's back to C:! WTH?

How to move VirtualBox files off C:
Hello, How does one change an existing VM so that snapshots and such are moved off the C:? I've got probably 83 GB out of 250 in snapshots alone that I want to move off the system disk. (It's small in size, but it's also solid state...) The VHD itself is on another drive which seems to be working on...

Running "non interactive" VB VMs
Hello, I've got a couple of VMs configured to run Windows 7 guests. My question is this: In the Hyper-V world, one can leave its VMs running in the background and connect to them over Remote Desktop, for instance. Is there a way to leave VB VMs running without "pausing" them where we can c...
