What is the reason what simulated UART in VirtualBox is 16450? Will this be ever changed in VirtualBox to change to more recent simulation of UART with support for FIFO buffers?

I am trying to run 16bit software in Windows XP guest session. I tried to use one dll file (provided by someone else in out company), which was used before on physical install of Windows XP to run that 16 bit software. It kind of makes sense to me.
VM will treat it like a USB device and whatever I try to use COM1 for in guest session will think it is a COM port.

What if I disable one on the host and then try to run virtual guest with the ip that I need? Would this work?
