No no sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were rude at all.

Re: SBS2003 guest crashes post snapshot, assertion failed
That's the second time some one has said that! lol... Although, imo, the last person was rather rude and said "You must really HATE you're data"..! You probably won't believe me, but I know what I'm doing. I know the risks involved. But I would suggest that the risk of actually screwing th...

Re: SBS2003 guest crashes post snapshot, assertion failed
Thanks mpack. Thats what I thought... locking blocking etc, I couldn't imagine that this would be occuring. But who knows. I was just checking my sanity. perryg sounded very surprised about what I was doing. I'm using pigz in order to keep up a good 30mb/s, as I seem to only be able to pul 10mb/s wi...

Re: SBS2003 guest crashes post snapshot, assertion failed
Is this seriously a dumb idea?
I have the vdi on an SSD, so I presumed that there would be certainly no IO issues. Also given that the copy rate is limited by the destination drive to 37mb/s.
I don't see why this shouldn't work. Can anyone shed some light?
Cheers
Michael

Re: Snapshot guest without memory
I appreciate that. But if vbox is able to trigger a buffer flush, then the method I describe is still a hell of a lot more secure than a power failure. Keep in mind that when a 'Shadow Copy' of an NTFS volume or an LVM or whatever, the results are pretty much the same. What you get is a copy of the ...

Re: SBS2003 guest crashes post snapshot, assertion failed
Yes
Why not?
The machine has been snapshotted and all updates are written to the snapshot vdi.
Presumably therefore the base vdi is 'read-only'
Am I missing something??

Re: Snapshot guest without memory
Come on, how is snapshotting without memory any different from pulling the power. And when was the last time a server didn't recover from power loss? ESXi offers it as an option. Are you the local authority on data security? Think outside the box mate. If VirtualBox is able to call upon the guest to...

Re: Full screen corruption with Gnome 3. Unity problems
Turn off unity.
Dont ask me how though. I tried, and now I have no desktop menu.
No worry, just installed xubuntu instead

Re: Backing up a live Virtual Box VM
I would presume he is implying that perhaps VBox is registered as a VSS writer, and thus pauses and flushes all pending writes when requested to do so. If you are using storage craft on the HOST, as you know, it takes a snapshot of you host filesystem. You may want to simply snapshot your guest in t...

Snapshot guest without memory
Hi All
Is it possible to take a snapshot without saving the memory?
I realise that this would cause a snapshot to be in a 'crash consistent' state, but I would like to beef up the time it takes to snapshot a machine.
i.e perhaps a command line option?
Cheers

SBS2003 guest crashes post snapshot, assertion failed
Hi All SBS2003 guest crashed 40 mins after snapshot. I had been pigz zipping the base vmdk for the last 20mins when the crash occured 64bit xubuntu , kernel 3.0.0-15 (kernel 3, really??!) 02:05:37.075 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'SUSPENDING'. 02:05:37.076 AIOMgr: Endpoint for file '/mnt/...

Re: Random VB Crashes, Win2003 Host, Linux 2.4 Guest
Happened to me when I was testing pause's effects on outlook and our LOB. Perhaps IDE? Grab the Intel drivers and switch to SATA... I'm yet to try. I was testing pause because it is presumably the same effect to users as taking a snapshot. THis is my log, but I actually have no idea what the time st...

Inaccurate CPU usage in guest. Really weird
Hi I have a fresh, unconnected, install of SBS 2008 running on Virtual Box 4.1.8 on a Ubuntu host. I noted that top was reporting a steady %20 CPU. But the guest was reporting %0. But I looked closer: perfmon is actually running on the guest at a steady %15. But the CPU chart... It's like a sine wav...

Re: Can I create shortcut on my desktop for a virtual machin
I am on Ubuntu using the oracle package. If VirtualBox is not running, then vboxmanage startvm, nor virtualbox --startvm But vboxmanage list vms works. I tried launcing VBoxSVC, but this had no effect. Just curious, is this designed behaviour? I kinda thought using virtualbox command, which alone st...
