Ugh, I think that this entire problem might be power-related. The UPS failed but the system comes back on when it is a short outage so I think that would explain it. Sorry about that! Will update if this happens again after I replace the UPS!

Okay, "good" news. The system crashed. I'll get to it later on tonight however what should I provide (if there is no logging of the crash in either VBox.log or /var/log/messages? At that point, should I assume that this is either a hardware failure or a compatibility issue causing the crash?

Using legacy reduces the effect of the new code and for all intents and purposes it would be considered a work-a-round, not a fix. Re: the dump / kernel panic... I turned the para-virtualization to legacy (per feedback yesterday) and have not had a crash since. Am still monitoring it. Maybe that will fix it? I figure 3 days runtime and I can assume that was the issue.

Just wondering then, is "default" doing something on the back-end (say, setting it to one of the other settings depending on HW)?

If you could tell me how each option works for paravirtualization? I'm unclear the difference between none and legacy? I didn't see a lot on this in the manual.

The forthcoming fix was for the running process though and NOT the host crash? I think that we were getting confirmation that 5.0 causes host crashes. The load is what was stated by a developer as a known condition.
