There is no 'driver installation' on Linux. Everything works with modules. Sure, it builds, sure, you can modprobe it, but can Xorg load the module? No, it can't because it's not build to support the new version. It's like putting diesel in a gasoline car. You can put it in, but it won't start with...

I have the impression the vboxvideo module builds fine and can be loaded (sudo modprobe vboxvideo), however the driver installation fails.

Can the instalation be done manually somehow? (copy the right files to the right places)
