Re: TurboTax 2011 freezes under Windows 7
I have exactly the same problem with TurboTax Premier; Slackware 13.37 64-bit, Win 7 Professional, starting with VirtualBox-4.1.6-74727-Linux_amd64 and identical with VirtualBox-4.1.8-75467-Linux_amd64. All Win 7 updates current, all Slackware (stable) updates current. Both the extension packs and g...

Enable Intel VT for Direct I/O?
Before I update to VirtualBox-4.1.6-74727-Linux_amd64 I'm wondering if I should enable Intel VT for Direct I/O (it is not enabled presently in the BIOS). I'm running a Slackware 64-bit 13.37 host with a Win7 64-bit guest -- I've been unable to enable 3-D acceleration no matter how I install the gues...

Found it, expanded the drive, now have 40G.
All is well that ends.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Add Disk Space to Win7 Guest on Linux Host
Oops! You're right, I did miss the VBoxMange section... but, while I was out, I found it and did: VBoxManage modifyhd /var/lib/virtual/Machines/Win7/Win7.vdi --resize 40960 That took it to 40G. Now all I have to figure out is how to tell Win7 that it's got 40G instead 20G (and I am most definitely n...

Add Disk Space to Win7 Guest on Linux Host
I have 64-bit Win7 installed as a guest on Slackware 64-bit 13.37. I have a 92G partition mounted as /var/lib/virtual than contains WinXP and Winy7 with 62G free; it's a SATA drive and it's telling me that SATA Port 0 is Win7.vdi (Normal, 20.00 GB) -- I though I installed Win7 as dynamic so it would...

Imported Windows XP will not Start
I have exported Windows XP from VirtualBox 4.0.4 r720112 running on Slackware 13.1 64-bit to another machine, also running VirtualBox 4.0.4 and Slackware 13.1 64-bit . The exported file is named XP.ova , copied from the original box to the new box. I have a couple of problems: I keep my virtual mach...

VirtualBox 4.0 on Slackware 64-bit Host, XP and TurboTax
I installed VirtualBox 4.0 on a Slackware 64-bit system and have had a couple of problems. First, XP would not start, complaining that there was not enough host memory available (it's a laptop, it has 4G RAM and 1024 M (or 1G) was allocated for XP. Cut that back from 1G to 896 M and XP would start. ...

Re: Linux Host Display Goes Negative (or Reverse Colors)
Turns out that there are two possible solutions; in my case, only one of which worked. Setting XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 in the environment; e.g., exported system-wide in /etc/profile or similar, may solve this problem (it did not for me). Log out, log back in for it to take effect. Adding Section &q...

Linux Host Display Goes Negative (or Reverse Colors)
I have three servers, all running Slackware 13.0, two 32-bit, one 64-bit. All three have VirtualBox-3.1.4-57640 installed (the "binary" package) and all three are running an XP guest. The 64-bit server (a Dell Inspiron 1750) exhibits no problems but both 32-bit servers exhibit the same pro...

Re: Dell Inspiron 17(50) Can't Set Processors
Well, ain't that a fine how-dee-doo -- no wonder the thing didn't cost an arm, leg and three toes from the other foot, eh. Looks like dual-boot is the only option, alas.
Thanks for the info.

Dell Inspiron 17(50) Can't Set Processors
I have a Dell Inspiron 17(50) 64-bit system with Slackware 13.0 64-bit as the only operating system; i.e., Vista was completely wiped off the system after being powered up about twice. VirtualBox 3.1.2 AMD64 is installed running 32-bit XP. I'd like to install either Vista 64 or Win7 64 (Win7 is an u...

Import Windows Installation to VirtualBox on Same Machine
I've convinced a friend that it's time to install Linux and VirtualBox (completely fed up with Microsoft and ready to throw the computer off a cliff). There is an existing Windows XP installation on the machine and what I'd like to do is import or copy or whatever that XP installation into VirtualBo...

Re: USB with UDEV and HAL on Slackware 13.0
Thanks for the link to the thread. I read it carefully and looked at the content of /etc/udev/rules.d which are 10-vboxdrv.rules 70-persistent-cd.rules 70-persistent-net.rules Thinking the Solution trick might work, I renamed 10-vboxdrv.rules to 71-vboxdrv.rules and, whadda ya know, it didn't work a...

Re: USB with UDEV and HAL on Slackware 13.0
My fault, I think -- I'd never adjusted the "about me" section and I think the version was just defaulted; sorry about any confusion.

Re: USB with UDEV and HAL on Slackware 13.0
As far as I can tell, the version I have is the PUEL version (it's from the VirtualBox Binaries, 3rd one down on the list, VirtualBox for Linux Hosts (at least that's what the web page says up at the top of the downloads) and I kind of think that USB wouldn't even show up in the settings? Unless I'm...
