Can report that using MS Defender, with the KB5012599 installed and AVG removed, everything is working as it should.

Thanks for the quick response. I have been using some programs since forever - (I threw out the Thunderbird install 3.5" floppy disks about 3 weeks ago, and I am still using Thunderbird) so AVG may well have been in use for 25 years! I have also taken out KB5012599 and he problem has gone away....
