Win10 VirtualBox Guest seems like sudden disk corruption, but restored .ova does too

I've originally posted for help in the Linux Mint forums, but was referred here from there. I'm on Linux Mint 18.3 with VirtualBox 5.1.38_Ubuntu r122592. This is the second time I've seen this occur. The Windows VM starts randomly jumbling & omitting text from everything, just borking the whole ...

Re: [Solved] VBoxManage script runs manually but not from cron

No, that became apparent it was needed after I got it working. What fixed it was removing the path to the VM & just using its name after VBoxManage during that command.

Re: VBoxManage script runs manually but not from cron

For future reference this change solved the issue:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
VBoxManage startvm VMName --type=separate
sleep 15
VBoxManage controlvm VMName setvideomodehint 1440 900 32

[Solved] VBoxManage script runs manually but not from cron

I'm on Linux Mint 18.3 with VirtualBox version 5.1.38_Ubuntu r122592. I have the following in my user's crontab: 0 12 * * 1 sh /home/user/Scripts/Show_Headless_VMName_UI_Now.sh And this is the script it calls: #!/bin/bash VBoxManage startvm /home/user/VM/VMName/ VMName --type=separate VBoxManage con...

Is the 'Preview' from Manager GUI available elsewhere?

I'm currently running a script [0] to access a VM which starts headless via another script. Since this guest doesn't need to be running 24/7, I'm working on implementing additional scripts & batch files so it can start, run its jobs, then shut down once it's done. I was hoping there'd be a way t...

Re: Script VBoxManage to GUI-fy existing headless VM?

Yea so again, I apologise for not making it clear that I can't legally use the Extension Pack in my use case.

However, I'll try your suggestion to see if I can re-attach to the VM that was launched headless. Thank you for that.

Should it work, I'll of course mark the thread solved.

Re: Script VBoxManage to GUI-fy existing headless VM?

I don't need to access it when it starts- headless is on purpose because while it needs to do its periodic tasks, I only need to access it to do stuff a couple times a day. Its fine to open the main window then click the Show button. But simplifying that would be preferred. I had previously been usi...

[Solved] Script VBoxManage to GUI-fy existing headless VM?

I have a script that uses vboxmanage to start a VM headless, which is fine. But I'd like to be able to script what happens when you open the main VirtualBox Manager window & use that VM's 'Show' button to start a detachable GUI on its display. I know the Extension Pack allows for RDP'ing to the ...

[Solved] Kernel driver signing procedure stopped working after update

Tonight the steps I follow every time I upgrade to a new kernel stopped working. Probably doesn't help that there's a new VirtualBox app too- it was happening before & after I updated that for what its worth... Usually I only have to re-run the script part, but after that failed I tried the whol...

Re: Headless Win10 guest crashes when 'Show' button is pressed

Due to unrelated concerns, I've re-installed the guest VM using Windows 7 now rather than 10. The issue is no longer happening- am able to 'Show' from a headless state without problems.

Headless Win10 guest crashes when 'Show' button is pressed

Running VirtualBox version 5.1.30 r118389 (Qt5.5.1) on Ubuntu 16.04.3 with a 64-bit Windows 10 Pro guest installed. Guest Additions are installed & current. Extension Pack is not installed, as I have no license for commercial use. I use a vboxmanage script to run the guest headless, & it sho...
