So apparently if I do dist-upgrade it will do the the Kernel panic but when I don't it's just normal... Is that normal?

I ran apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y && apt-get dist-upgrade -y in the terminal but when I reboot it it always says end Kernel panic. I still have the love CD/DVD in because I thought it would fix it somehow

Guest: Kali Linux 2016.2 iso

Template: Debian (64 bit) 1.024 gb Ram (1024)

I seriously don't know what's going on, I am running Kali Linux (version 2016.2) on Debian (64 bit) in Virtual box, I have updated and upgraded everything, I have dist upgraded as well the only thing I did before the Kernel panic was restart my machine please help me
