shared folders with long names problem

Post by diplomat »

when i try to open the file from shared folders, it gives me "Filed not found" error. I must copy it to guest system through explorer and than it works. I've tried to copy whole directory structure and then open it and everything works fine also. The problem is only when i am opening the file from shared folder.
Any help is appreciated.

Tell us first exactly what you do. Open a file with what? Fails will all files or just one. Details please.

I've tried to open e.g. following file
\\vboxsvr\zakazky\2006.Romill\05 provadecka\CAD\elektro\2007-06-01.rozmisteni podlahovych krabic\romill-krabice-2007-06-01.pudorys01np.3dm
and got "file not found error".

another file:
\\vboxsvr\zakazky\2006.Romill\05 provadecka\stavba\2007-07-24\upravene.3dm works smoothly.
Host: OpenSUSE 10.2 x64
guest:Win2k
app: all.

Opening files fails if the path is too long.
And it displayes the names in path to uppercase.

The problem should be if the file is opened from explorer via doubleclick.?

Have you read the manual? The part that says you have to map a shared folder to a driver using 'net use' is quite useful.

the upper example shows the path lenght only. Normaly, I've mapped it as an drive, eg E:\zakazky\2006.Romill\05 provadecka\CAD\elektro\2007-06-01.rozmisteni podlahovych krabic\romill-krabice-2007-06-01.pudorys01np.3dm

Are you sure the casing is correct for the whole path & filename? Your host has a case-sensitive file system and we don't yet handle such situations.

Could you create a ticket in our bug tracker? (http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Bugtracker)

Include all details or add a link to this thread. I'll try to reproduce it later.

Thanks.
