[SOLVED] A way to accept the last state as final state?

Postby lCine7ic » 18. Jul 2008, 15:35

I have a WindowsXP Guest VM that is exactly how I want it to be setup (software and all).

I intend on putting this VM on a network drive so myself and others can use the software residing inside the VM when needed. However--I saved the VM setup at many different states and don't want others to accidentally revert to a previous version of the state.

Is there a way I can make the last state (the VM exactly how I want to be) the only state--effectively a blanket "accept all changes and compact" command?

Look for discardcurrent in the user guide. You can do the same in the GUI.

[Edit: as is correctly pointed out below this should read discard. Sorry for the mind fart.]

Discard current will revert to the previous snapshot. -- What I actually want to do is keep only the most recent snapshot (as long as it works stand-alone) and discard all of the ones prior.

If I select one of the intermedite snapshots (and not the final one)--will it discard all snapshots taken after it (in the same way deleting a directory deletes all sub directories)?

If not, will the remaining snapshot (the last snapshot taken) be useable?

Ok, you look at your list of available snapshots, they go down in a tree. You want to start with the first snapshot, right click and click DISCARD, that will merge that snapshot into the next snapshot.

Repeat this process until you are down to one final snapshot which was originally the LAST ONE in your snapshot list.

Right click this final snapshot and click discard.

You will now have all your latest changes permanently added to a VDI file with no snapshots so copying the VDI to other locations will be easy as cake.

Trust me, discard snapshots starting from the first to the last and you will have achieved what your wanting.

Hope this helps...
