Cannot run on kernel 2.6.25

Postby camh » 17. Apr 2008, 08:37

I have virtualbox 1.5.6 installed on Debian sid. I have just upgraded to the 2.6.25 kernel and it looks like "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" does not work.

dmesg gives the following error:
vboxdrv: Unknown symbol change_page_attr

Is there a known fix for this?

AFAIK, 2.6.25 is not final yet. Until that kernel is final, there will be no to limited support for it. Especially since 1.5.6 was released when work began on that kernel. VB 1.5.6 does run fine on 2.6.24. If it doesn't for you, ask the kernel devs or other people that have more knowledge about the Debian systems. You have to look for an answer there.

Then still, there is no support for that kernel with 1.5.6. Wait for the next release, which won't take long before it's released. Keep an eye on the changelog.

This bug still exists for me in when using PAE version of kernel 2.6.25. Can someone confirm this?

There is no new version of VB that supports PAE. This kernel module is only to let VB run on the 2.6.25 kernel.
