Host Key and Keyboard don't work

Postby RegistrationSUCKS » 13. Apr 2008, 01:42

I am using VirtualBox 1.5.6 (not OSE) in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Beta as a host and Windows XP Pro as a guest. When I start VB the Host Key doesn't respond nor does the Keyboard (inside the guest).

I can get it to work if I disable "complex characters" in the language settings; that is the setting that enables SCIM.

The thing is I need Japanese input, so disabling it is not an option.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks.

Currently, I only have two ways to get this to work, both kinda suck.

1. Disable complex characters in language support and restart X. This sucks because I might as well dual Boot.

2 I can run VB with:

ssh -XC localhost VirtualBox

This works too, but the performance suffers.

I hope this will be fixed in the release that goes with Hardy.

This didn't help. It doesn't recognize the home key. Nor does the keyboard work.

Try switching to another program and back to the VM; I get similar problems on XP host/guest and this seems to help sometimes.

It really works in my case.
I use VB-OSE, maybe that is the difference.

I'll try out the OSE, but I need USB support, so it will only serve as a troubleshooting data point.

Thanks for your info!

I solved this problem in ubuntu 8.04 by installing scim-bridge-client-qt. You probably need a reboot after installing the new package.

Thanks chinese_ys, I was messing for a while with this issus, never realized it was because of SCIM.
