Some www pages unreachable from guest, but reachableFromHost

Hi,

I'm running Virtualbox (latest v.) as a guest on Windows XP SP2.

Some www pages are not reachable from guest ( e.g www.virtualbox.org/ticket/1247), whereas they normally load on host.

At first i thought it has sth to do with windows firewall, so I completly disabled it, but this didnt help.

The strange thing is that some pages load on host, but they dont work on guest. Another example of such page : http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/
These are all http protocol.

I use internet on VirtualBox (Ubuntu 8.04 - guest ) with NAT.

The issue is probably due to DNS resolution search lists. VBox only passes the first DNS host to the guest. If this is dead or partially dead then DNS resolution on the guest fails. The work around is to add supplementary entries on the guest. Use the search trick below. I've posted answered on this before.
