No windows Network after upgrade tp 1.6

I have been running OpenSolaris B86 and Windows XP as a guest with no problems with V1.5.6, but I upgraded to 1.6 and I do not get any network any longer with in XP.

- vnic interface is correct (since it was working before)

I appear to have the same problem. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 as host.
After the upgrade the networking in my guest XP installation has stopped working.
I have static ip addresses for all the machines on my network.
The XP installation reports the network card is ok but it cannot connect to anything or indeed ping anything.
On the same host machine I also have a guest install of Ubuntu 8.04 (yep, i know that's Ubuntu on Ubuntu !!) and that does not have any problems.
Other info to add would be my VirtualBox networking has been set up as 'Host Interface Networking'

I managed to solve this problem by using the Intel network driver.

- Make sure you select the Intel PRO/1000 MT as your network.
- Download the driver from Intel PRO/1000 MT from intel

- Get it installed onto Windows XP via the shared folders.
- Install the driver and away you go.

The OEM for the physical pcnet devices is actually AMD, I believe. So I found the drivers for them on the AMD website -- and they worked.

You have to select the Intel NIC in the Guest Settings before the driver would actually install properly. Would installing an ATi driver work on an nVidia graphics card? No, because you don't have an ATi videocard.

That's not a choice on the latest open source virtualbox (1.6.2_OSE). The vbox ose guest os settings only offer two AMD NICs (pcnet-fast 3, and pcnet-pci 2). I've verified that the AMD driver works on pcnet-fast 3; not sure about the other one.

Is the intel emulation offered on the commercial version of vbox?

Yes, the Intel NIC is an option in the non-OSE version. I thought it was in the OSE too. Then you might want to install the non-OSE version. It has USB support too. And you don't have the problem with the kernel modules to be build by the distribution devvers.

vbox CSE for OS X does in fact have the intel NIC emulation (2 in fact). The vbox OSE that I mentioned earlier was on linux, btw; so it could also be a difference in host operating systems.

Also, the intel drivers are considerably fatter (11 MB). The AMD drivers are ~60 KB.

THIS IS HOW I SOLVED MINE

I had the same problem. Tried both the intel and the AMD drivers. The AMD was not ecognized by device manager and the Intel did no recognize the device.

I then tried downloading the VMware Accelerated AMD PCNet Adapter (http://www.downloadatoz.com/driver/item_239216.html), installed the exe and update the driver on device manager.

I have Host Ubuntu 8.04 and guest TynyXP rev 8.
