No, the PUEL version is not in the repositories and there is no repo for it as it was with the 1.5.x series. You have to check the website, download it and update the package manually.

APT Repositories

Postby kfries6 » 13. Jun 2008, 16:21

Well so much for being able to trust SUN for not screwing up a good product.

Making your product more difficult to keep up to date only makes it more dangerous to deploy. The real power of the APT or YUM repositories is that it publishes updates that are queried automatically by Linux based systems. This causes security problems to be addressed and fixed immediately. Security problems and software fixes that are addressed immediately create a more stable and secure system.

Anybody know if a VDI file is usable under KVM?

I'm new to the VirtualBox environment/community.

So is the new policy that the Hardy repository is going to be stuck at 1.5.6 and never updated to 1.6.2, or is there just some QA that is going on to ensure that things don't break for Hardy folks?

What about RHEL/CentOS? (or is that Xen-land?)

Where can I find some information about the migration risks/issues of moving from 1.5.6 to 1.6.2. The ChangeLog is interesting but not helpful for this type of investigation (IMO).

TiA!

I started with VB 1.5.2 and upgraded just fine every release to be at 1.6.2 now. I had no problems at all. For the other distributions, they all have the OSE version in their repository, but not the binary you can find on the website.

They had a Debian repo running for 1.5.x, but ever since Sun took over Innotek, there hasn't been a repo for it. They say it has something to do with the license and people have to accept it first before downloading. I believe that is a bad excuse, because you can add the question for the license before installing the program, like all other software companies do, and Sun does it too with their OpenOffice.org and other programs (like Java).
