Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
Hi Everyone,
I just upgrade to 2.2.2 and for some reason when I went to start VirtualBox to run Windows XP on my Mac I get this error?????
I'm totally stuck!
My settings are ACPI on, IO APIC on, VT-s/AMD-V (just tried turning it off whereas it used to be on - did not work), PAC/NX off.
I also copied and pasted the main settings below as the screen shot was too large.
I recently moved Virtual Box and the related disk images from another hard drive to a new drive 3 days ago. At first it did not work but then it started to work for an unknown reason.
And today I just upgrade to 2.2.2 and suddenly I get this message. Any IDEAS???

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
Hi THere,
I have not received any replies yet and I know it is still early.
I downgraded to 2.2.0 and now I am back in business - THANKFULLY!
2.2.2 has me TERRIFIED now!
So, until I learn some reasons why I had the area I am going to stick to the tried and true.
If anyone has any reasons or suggestions or needs more info from me to get this resolved please let me know.
Thanks,
Lou

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
Hi Perry,
Thanks for responding and I really appreciate it!
Well, when I did the update to 2.2.2 I ran VirtualBox and then Started my Virtual Machine to boot Windows XP.
However, it did not get that far at all.
The second I started it the window came up and immediately displayed the VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER) immediately.
Once I clicked OK the window closed meaning it refused to boot or even start the VirtualBox machine.
When I downgraded to 2.2.0 everything worked fine by starting the Virtual Machine and then starting Windows XP.
Does any of this make sense...?
Is there anything else you want me to clarify...?
I tried to upload some screen snapshots however this forum only allows 128MB files and even after I compressed the picture I could not get it that low so I don't know how people get pictures in here.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Lou

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
I think its a problem with a value inside the machine.xml file(s), try creating a new VM with the same settings and attach VDI.

In case you need more data points...
I have 4 different guest systems that all got this error after upgrading. Ubuntu, Windows 2K, Windows XP and Windows 7 Beta. Host is OS X.
Downgrading resolved the problem.

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
I do not have a MAC right now to see if I can figure this out but I have seen this on win and Linux where it did not install properly and you had to run the install again and tell it to repair. This fixes about 98% of the problems. I hope you are not one of the 2%. Anyway one of the MAC people will come along and see your problem and hopefully they will have more information.
Worst case scenario you will need to file a Bug Report to get it fixed.

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
I'm having the same problem trying to run Win XP on VirtualBox version 2.2.2 r46594. Everything was working fine until today when VBox prompted me to install the latest update. Now I can't start my Win XP VM.

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
I think I fixed the problem.
Per the post above I tried reinstalling 2.2.2, but couldn't find a "repair" option anywhere in the install. Reinstalling didn't help.
I downgraded to 2.2.0, opened the VM and let Windows XP start, then shut it down from the Start Menu.
I re-upgraded to 2.2.2 and everything works now.
...go figure. The Windows VM must have been in a funny state.

Installed V2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR)
I am a first-time user of the VirtualBox software, so there is no previous version to go back to. I downloaded the V2.2.2 version for my Mac Pro (2x 2.66 GHz Dual Xeon, 10 GB FB-DRAM) running Tiger (10.4.11). I went through all of the Wizard steps to create a VDI file to use as the guest disk and I had downloaded the Windows 7 RC ISO to use for the CD/DVD-ROM device. As soon as I start the virtual machine, I get this VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR pop-up. No matter the changes I try making to the configuration settings, it won't start.
If it helps, here is the contents of my last VBox.log file:I will try reinstalling, but I'm not confident that will fix the issue as it seems everyone else went back to version 2.2.0. I tried V2.2.2 of VirtualBox on my Windows XP notebook and it works like a charm, so I have high hopes I can get this working on my Mac.
Update: I tried removing all the Advanced options, like PEX, since I'm interested in the 32-bit version of Windows 7. It now boots, so I am on my way to installing the Release Candidate of Windows 7 on my Mac. Too cool
If it helps, here is the contents of my last VBox.log file:

Update: I tried removing all the Advanced options, like PEX, since I'm interested in the 32-bit version of Windows 7. It now boots, so I am on my way to installing the Release Candidate of Windows 7 on my Mac. Too cool

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
I reinstalled 2.2.2 and everything worked. Your mileage may vary.xpucadad wrote:In case you need more data points...

I got several different but similar errors.
The VirtualBox itself would not run without an error, but I fixed by removing the VirtualBox.xml file locaed in /userid/Library/VirtualBox and reinstalled. It created the file again.
The other issues were with the boxes themselves, which I resolved by removing the machinename.xml file located in the machine directory for each box, for example:
/userid/Library/VirtualBox/Machines/WindowsXP/WindowsXP.xml
When I started VirtualBox back up, my panel was clear, so I simply walked through the process of adding machines again, using the same hostnames and the specific existing vdi devices. The xml files were recreated and the machines started.
Granted, this is not what I consider a smooth upgrade, but at least I had a workaround and I am back in business.
Hope it works for you as well.

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
Hello PerryG
Do you have a solution for this problem?
I made the update two times. The error message remains.
Regards
Daniel

Re: Updated to 2.2.2 and got VM (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER)
I don't know if you did this or not, but, if not, try installing 2.2.0 again and then reinstall 2.2.2. This is what I did. Not sure if that's why the re-installed 2.2.2 worked for me or not.masterofsnooker wrote:Hello PerryG

Good luck!
