I have the VirtualBox repository added and the 4.02 update showed up today. However, during installation, I got the following error:
Error! Bad conf file.
File: /var/lib/dkms/vboxhost/4.0.0/source/dkms.conf does not represent
a valid dkms.conf file.
Installation completed though :
* done.
* Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS * done.
* Starting VirtualBox kernel modules * done.
Does any action need to be taken? Will the next kernel update break anything?
TIA.

Re: Virtualbox 4.02 DPKG Error on Ubuntu 10.04
I have seen where dkms had become corrupt, but that has been a long time ago. Usually a remove purge of dkms and then installing it again fixes this.
But if everything works you might want to wait and see what happens the next time.
Of course if you don't have dkms installed (strongly suggested to have) then the error may be a false positive since VirtualBox uses it.

Thanks for the input. I do have dkms installed. As suggested, I'll wait and see what happens at the next kernel update.

might be related to an issue discussed in this bug report, purging the pkg database was the fix: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/8122rsk02 wrote:Thanks for the input. I do have dkms installed. As suggested, I'll wait and see what happens at the next kernel update.
