Cannot create snapshot of running VM after upgrade to 4.0.2

Post by ctr »

Dear All,

I recently upgraded to VirtualBox 4.0.2 on two host machines.

One machine has developed a problem that it cannot create snapshots of a running VM. I get an error, and this text in the VBox.log file:

The VM then shuts down - losing my current work.

I CAN make snapshots if the VM is shut down at the time I create the snapshot.

I have tested a brand new VM with an 8GB virtual disk, starting the Fedora 13 live CD image. That exhibited the same problem.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling VirtualBox on the host system.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Chris.

Yes, I did install the Extension Pack. I downloaded the latest version at the same time as the main VirtualBox installer.

I have posted a complete VBox.log that demonstrates the same problem on PasteBin http://pastebin.com/SBjA6pfr (the log file is too large for me to upload here.)
N.B. This is a second log file - the log file that I quoted from above has already been overwritten.

In case it's relevant, here is cygwin's /proc/cpuinfo output from the host machine:

Don't worry - VirtualBox is not being run through Cygwin in any way.

Facing exactly the same problem on a fresh VirtualBox install and fresh Ubuntu 10 guest.

Running Windows 7 64-bit as host OS and
Ubuntu 10.01 64-bit server as guest OS. Guest OS was a fresh install. The first attempt to take a snapshot failed in Guru meditation (nice Amiga flashback btw)
